Valencia CF visited Celta Vigo on Sunday, May 26 at 4:15 pm kick-off time at the Abanca Balaídos on Matchday 38 on the final day of the 23-24 LaLiga season.
Valencia CF had a strong start to the game with Thierry Correia as the main attacking outlet for Valencia. CF shortly after persistence paid dividends when the Portuguese right-back bombed forward and nutmegged his marker, forcing Carlos Domínguez to divert the return ball into the back of his net.
Minutes later, a carbon copy moved down the right and almost paid off, but Thieery Correia's effort was turned down by Iván Villar.
Later on, Diego López's penalty appeal for a handball offence against Mugueza was waved away despite the protests. André Almeida got on the end of an inviting Dimitri Foulquer cross, but his effort went narrowly off-target Valencia CF relentlessly knocked on Celta Vigo's door with a textbook break and Alberto Marí came mighty close to sliding the home past Iván Villar halfway through the first half.
The tempo of the game fell off due to a series of stoppages over the half-hour mark.
Valencia CF edged Celta Vigo by a 0-1 scoreline at half-time at the Abanca Balaídos. Valencia CF came out in the second half looking to double their advantage and they nearly did through Diego López, but his effort took a double deflection.
Alas, Christian Mosquera was on the wrong end of a penalty infringement. The referee awarded the penalty and Iago Aspas converted the resulting spot-kick.
Alberto Marí put Valencia CF back in front after Fran Beltrán clipped him inside the box the referee pointed to the spot and Alberto Mari slotted the ball home past Iván Villar on the hour mark.
Alas, the joy was short-lived as Tasos Douvikas got Celta Vigo back on level terms only three minutes later.
Rubén Baraja made a double substitution with Peter Federico and Javi Guerra coming on for Hugo Guillamón and Diego López with twenty minutes plus stoppage time left to go.
Peter Federico almost lifted the ball over and off-rushing Iván Villar but he couldn't quite wrap his foot around the ball and his effort blazed over the crossbar. Hugo Duro and Hugo González replaced Hugo Guillamón and Alberto Marí and then Valencia CF were forced to an injury substitution with Tierry Correia making way for Rubén Iranzo.
The full-time whistle was blown and the final game of the season finished two apiece between RC Celta Vigo and Valencia CF at the Abanca Balaídos in Galicia.
Valencia CF will play against CF Benidorm on Tuesday, May 28th at 7 pm kick-off time at the Guillermo Amor Municipal Stadium in the 'Trofeo Joan Fuster'.
